Tinea Pedis

Tinea pedis, or athlete’s foot, is a fungal infection affecting the skin of the foot. Most cases of tinea pedis are caused by the organism Trichophyton rubrum.

In most patients, it is easily treated with topical antifungal agents. Oral medications are used for more extensive disease.

Best practices for reducing risk of tinea pedis include keeping the feet dry, wearing moisture-wicking socks, and avoiding walking barefoot in public areas.
